Raising Aspirations through Rowing

Donations to the Intrepidus Trust have enabled the establishment of a growing rowing programme at the school, in partnership with Fulham Reach Boat Club (FRBC).

Year 12 student Tashi (pictured above centre) is one of the programmes's rising stars.  Having started as part of the KAA squad, she joined FRBC's junior programme, taking her rowing to the next level. She won her first medal - a bronze - at the Ball Cup South Regatta at Dorney Lake in May, and has since been awarded Young Ambassador of the Year by Hammersmith & Fulham Council.

Very excitingly, Tashi is currently competing in the trials for the Great Britain Junior Rowing team, so her rowing adventure is just beginning!

Tashi's story has also served as inspiration to the 221 KAA students who have been able to give rowing a go, thanks to donations to the Intrepidus Trust. Over 80% of our students in last year's programme had never rowed before and many hadn't been down to the river. It felt transformative for many of them - as well as bringing physical benefits, they reported gains in their confidence, teamwork and resilience.

The squad are building in skill and confidence, progressing to fine boats and singles and learning to cox. This progress saw a number of our students picked for FRBC's Junior programme, and competing in a regatta against Chelsea Academy with KAA house teams taking the top four places!
