Work placement opportunities needed

Through KIT we hope to widen access to opportunities that enable our students to learn more about the world of work, build their life skills and expand their professional networks.

All students in Year 10 (aged 14-15) are expected to undertake a one-week work placement in July, but this can be challenging for them to find (partly due to their age, and also without the connections that typically benefit students in the private school system).

One of the teachers at KAA has been working with a cohort of high-attaining students in Year 10 who have demonstrated drive and potential, and who we would like to support to access work placements in fields that they have expressed an interest in.

Below are testimonials from the students in question. We would very much like to hear from you if you have any connections in their chosen industries (software/tech, medicine, law, fashion, and music production/theatre), and would be open to discussing the possibility of offering one of our young people a 5-day work placement w/c 8th July 2024. Please email Ros (ros.oxley@kaatrust.org.uk) if you would like to discuss further.

Medicine

“I am emailing you to express my interest in the work experience opportunity you have given me which can bring me one step forward in achieving my lifelong dream of pursuing a career in medicine.

From a young age, my passion for studying medicine has been deeply rooted in the joy I find in helping others. The idea of immersing myself in a medical environment excites me not only for the invaluable knowledge I get to be exposed to but also for the chance to positively contribute to the well-being of individuals and the happiness they feel.

The fulfilment I find within myself to help others has been my driving force throughout my years in education to work in the healthcare industry. Ultimately, I wish to be qualified enough to be a paediatrician and bring smiles on the faces of children and young people whom I will treat.

I hope, through the KIT, I can embark on this journey to attain my dream by immersing myself in the healthcare field and experiencing a week to cherish throughout my education.”

Sumayyah, Year 10

Law or Fashion

“My name is Anamika Shaw and I am in KAA Year 10 Slimani. In the future, I see myself working in a sector that utilises creativity and debating skills. My dream job is to work in the fashion designing industry, however I am also very interested in law, and have thought of becoming a corporate lawyer. I have enjoyed designing from a young age, and have chosen GCSE Art in order to further pursue a career in the creative arts. I have good analytical skills which make me confident when assessing and confronting different situations with my communication skills. I believe I could use these qualities to become a lawyer, and find the subject of law very interesting. This has led me to pick GCSE History and GCSE Psychology to develop these skills further. I would be very happy to find a work experience opportunity that can help me further my understanding in these areas.”

Anamika, Year 10

Software / Tech

“I am writing to express my interest in the opportunity to undertake work experience in the Software development field. Throughout my academic journey, I have developed a strong passion for coding and software development. I have been actively engaged in self-study, exploring various programming languages and technologies. I have a fundamental understanding of languages like Python, JavaScript, and HTML, and have built small-scale applications, such as text-based games, random password generators and Student course pairing programs to name a few, as part of my personal projects.

I am particularly drawn to Software development  due to its growing prominence in our modern world and the way it can assist human beings in the near future in different aspects of life. I am eager to experience firsthand how the theoretical knowledge I have gained in school and home translates into real-world software engineering practices.

During this work experience opportunity, I am excited to learn and contribute in any way possible. I am highly motivated, adaptable, and possess strong problem-solving skills that I believe will be valuable in a professional setting. Moreover, I am eager to observe and participate in the software development lifecycle to gain a holistic understanding of the industry.”

Asriel, Year 10

Music Production / Musical Theatre

“I am interested in the possibility of being granted a chance to access my dream work experience placement.

I am a friendly, proficient and driven student. I am interested in developing my social skills, teamwork skills and deepen my musical ability . I would like to gain experience in working in high pressure areas and I am keen to broaden my understanding of working in a high pressure industry. Since 5, I have been interested in music and continuously participated in musical programs in Royal College of Music, Lyric Theatre, Royal Albert Hall and even in school by participating in every House Music competition and joining choir, band and Upper Voices. Through this program, I am eager to show my enthusiasm for learning and hope you are able to pick me for this amazing opportunity. I look forward to hearing from you.”
